Figure 1: Activation of latent HIV as a strategy for HIV cure: Anti-latency agents used for activating latent HIV proviruses present in CD4+ T cells cause cell death induced by HIV as well as by cellular activation and immune cell mediated lysis. These agents are to be used in combination with HAART to prevent further HIV spread to uninfected CD4+ T cells.
